Pixel Internet = Rubbish Service !

31 May 2010 8 Comments

Pixel internet hostingHi guys

Welcome to pixel Internet guys the uk’s favourite host, well I can tell you something they are not mine !

In fact for me they were the worst hosting company Ive ever used, full stop!

I first moved over to Pixel Internet after using steamline.net for a while, which provide cheap and cheerful hosting, but they had sql database issues and didn’t seem to want to resolve them, so I had to move hosts, I came across Pixel Internet, and for the best part of 2 years have been happy for the most part, the odd gripe now and again, but that’s the same with any hosting company.

Where did it all go wrong?

Well every now and again my site kept going down, and I kept getting a 404 forbidden error, I was told that there was a major surge on my hosting account and my access was automatically shut down, I really had no idea why this was happening, as my site wasn’t that busy at the time, in fact it had been twice as busy in the past, and never had any problems what so ever.

This kept happening, after the 5th time of this happening, I was starting to wonder what was going on, one of the pixel Internet people said it was something to do with an image re size program that was taking up resources on the site and causing it to be disabled, I have nothing like this on my site so was very confused.

You site is disabled and will not be re-enabled!

So I email again after my site goes down, I get an email saying, your site has been disabled for using to many resources on the server and wont be re-enabled!

Huh how can that be so, my site wasn’t even hitting peak traffic, now this is what really annoys me about web hosts, I of course complained and explained it cant be this, I know for a fact it wasn’t that, as the site had twice the hits 12 months ago than the site has now with no problems what so ever.

Of course I was told our decision is final there’s no recourse, no one listens to what you have to say, and the usual rhetoric is we have a responsibility to our other customers blah de blah, well what about this customer ?

I explained you have disabled my site, with no notice what so ever, didn’t even allow me FTP access I had to email to get that working!

It did indeed cost me hard earned money to move this site to another server.

Personally, I think that stinks, after nearly two years of working together and me paying money for a service to be unceremoniously disabled and told it will not be re-enabled is pants, and its one sure fire way to lose a customer !

It would have made common sense to say well you have 48 hours to move your site, but alas this didnt happen, and they have lost a customer and also earned a very nice post explaining why no one else should ever use them.

The Plot Thickens!

So your probably wondering well what caused the 404 errors them, in fact just about every part of my site had been hacked, my homepage, my forums, my blog, you name it, it was hacked.

It took me a long time to discover this, so it had nothing to do with my site using too many resources at all, so they didn’t even get the problem right !

Summery

Pixel Internet should have listened to me, there’s was no reason to just cut my site off in such a cruel way, I thought we had some kind of partnership and some kind of trust, but this is all thrown away when a company does this, especially when there no recourse or any apologies.

Pixel Internet bow your head in shame

Sounds to me like you should have taken better care of your site mate. If I were a hosting company and I had a customer with a site hacked to death, I’d probably shut you down to, why should everyone else on their servers suffer because of you?

Sound to me like they gave you warning :s

I hate to say it but I think you would have got the same result no matter who you were with, that is unless of course you had your own dedicated server, but then again your site would have just brought that down too if it was so badly infected?

Good site maintenance is so important now a day with site hacking becoming more and more popular. I’m with fast hosts and I got my site hacked once, they disabled mine until I resolved it (although I was allowed FTP access).

You don’t say if they gave you this access on the last occasion but I will presume they did all the other times they notified you if the issues your site was causing?

Anyway keep your site bug free and well maintained and you should avoid issues like this in the future, no matter what hosting company you are with!

Oh so its my fault now lol !

They didnt shut me down because I was hacked I think thats the point isnt it, if they had said you have been hacked, we are shuttin ur site down, no one would have argued would they ? I certainly wouldnt have and we would have resolved the issues and then I would have probably got my hosting back.

Shutting someones site down without no real knowledge of what caused it, is counterproductive as once you have shut a site down, theres bugger all you can do while its shut down.

Also nothing wrong with my site maintainance, I could say its down to their server maintainance, after all they could have got access thru their servers, but we will never really know now will we, because all they did was cut me off, which makes troubleshooting the problem extremely difficult without access to server logs.

As for other customers suffering thats a red herring, its not really about that is it clearly, as if they had actually cared about their customers, they would have helped me, not just cut me off and left me hanging out to dry.

I appreciate its a difficult situation, and you might even be right most hosting companies might well have cut me off, but they also might have helped me find that I had been hacked, which I found out by myself many months later.

How are they to tell you have been hacked?

If the “hacker” didn’t use some sort of black-ice tool making it obvious?

If they used a password and username, all the hosting company has to look it is someone uploading data to your site legally. They have no idea that this isnt you.

While it does indeed suck, and you can feel rightly pissed off that the hosting company didn’t actually go a bit further in looking at the issues and maybe working it out for themselves, there are some reasons why this didn’t happen.

How much are you paying for your hosting package? Not a huge amount I guess. Hosting companys play the sell em cheap and knock them out game. With thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of sites being hosted, and the vast majority of them being owned by total idiots (not talking about you, but in general) with very little knowledge of what they are doing. Then the hosting companys just don’t have the time to check a site for stuff like this.

Yes fair point Gordon, it would have been difficult for them to spot I had been hacked, as even I didnt notice at first.

It was just the attitude that annoyed me really, saying we have turned your site off and wont be turning it back on, not very nice.

It was pretty cheap, and I dont use them anymore now for obvious reasons, so maybe you do get exactly what you pay for!

Why de-fame a company like this?

Ok so you had a bad experience but to say there services are ‘rubbish’ I think is a little harsh.

I hate when people dont fairly review companies. Fair play by all means let the world know of your bad experience but dont defame someone (or a company).

De Fame a company are you having a laugh ???

Turning off my hosting cost me over $300, in lost revenue and costs involved in moving and sourcing a new server.

Do you think Pixel Internet were interested in my losses ? do you think they compensated me in any way ?

In fact they flatly said they were not interested, not even one word of appology NOTHING!

Therefore in my opinion they are RUBBISH and that is me being fair, as quite honestly there could have been a few swear words included in this post !

What they did was outragious, and the way they handled it was terrible.

In fact they only do this, because when I put in a complaint they just quote a load of terms and conditions, which all point towards covering their backs.

So this is my come back, this is the way companies like Pixel Internet learn that if you treat a customer badly they will get a bad blog post and someone out there might read it and might well be influanced by it.

If they hadnt treated me badly, there wouldnt be no blog post at all would there ??

Far too often people cry how it’s not their fault. Generally speaking the the louder someone shouts how it’s somebody else’s fault then the more they are in self denial.

If you want to deny, to yourself, your own faults and try shifting the blame then you will never succeed fully in anything.

“It did indeed cost me hard earned money to move this site to another server.”
Perhaps if you had of chosen the correct package for the resources you use then you would not have had the problem in the first place. The world is full of cheap skates who try and get more than they pay for.

    Hi there

Let me use some common sense here.

What does price have to do with common sense, how can anyone forsee what is going to happen in the future, NO ONE.

You can only pick the package that you think is right at the time, you are correct I chose the wrong host and package, does that give anyone the right to cut my site access off without notice, the answer is NO.

Common sense says that isnt the best way to tackle this issue, as I said about if the host had said we will give you 24-48 hours to move my site, everyone would have been happy, that is called COMMON SENSE. Common sense should be a given, it shouldnt be something you have to pay extra money for.

To say its my fault for something I could not forsee and to say I am in denial because of that, well thats an easy stone to throw by someone who clerly doesnt have any common sense, maybe you should get a job at Pixel Internet !
