Myth 2 Gov, Edu links carry more weight !
Oh and while we are at it can we put an end to this Gov and Edu links are more powerful stuff to rest!
It seems Google have been denying that these links carry more weight for a while, but the myth has continued, I really have no idea why as if they carried more weight wouldn’t they show in just about every niche !
The top 10 of Google would be dominated by these links, but it clearly isn’t!
I cant remember the last time I had to do battle with a Gov and Edu website when trying to rank my sites.
Also all you need to do is check some of the Gov and Edu sites that do let people post links, they are just full of V1agra crap, so even if they did carry some small advantage it would be negated, by lots of spammers jumping on the site.
Don’t waste your time looking for short cuts, I mean if someone you know offers you a top class link from one of these links obviously jump at the chance, other than that its not something I would worry about.
As Ive said to many people, Quality is what you should be STRIVING for, and that means in back-links too.

I agree 100% with you on this one. I will get the same value from a link that has a PR7 and is not an .gov site. The only question here is whether the link is related, if the websites share the same topic than the link will carry much more weight, if not, it’s just a waste of time.
